Choosing one of the destinations to travel in spring through Argentina is one of those dilemmas that can sometimes be hard to decide. Sea, mountains, jungle, lakes, rivers. Perhaps the problem is that we find ourselves faced with an immensity and beauty that is hard to find anywhere else in the world. There is so much to see, feel and experience that we don't know where to begin.

For many, it is the best season to travel through our country, and it most likely is. Colors reappear, flora is reborn and temperatures become more pleasant. And each place has its own magic: the yungas of Jujuy and Salta, the spectacular Iguazú Falls, spring in Bariloche, the mountain range of San Juan and Entre Ríos with its rivers. And this is just the beginning.

The spring months are the best times to travel through Argentina. Winter vacations are over and the crowds disappear in some places. Also, temperatures become more pleasant even in the southernmost places. But there is something that makes the difference: the colors of the landscapes come alive again with a new splendor.

To make the most of your trip, first think about what kind of experience you're looking for: Do you want to enjoy nature in full bloom? Are you more interested in culture and gastronomy? Or do you prefer outdoor activities like trekking, wildlife watching, or leisurely excursions?

Another thing to keep in mind is the length of the trip and who you're traveling with. For example, some places tend to have excursions that are a bit more demanding in terms of physical effort, while others are ideal for all kinds of travelers.

Choosing the right destination for a spring trip through Argentina is the key to making your experience exactly what you're looking for.

Every traveler looks for something in a destination. If you want to walk through the jungle without too many people, Jujuy is your place. For those who want to go not too far from Buenos Aires, Entre Ríos. For a unique experience in the mountains, San Juan and Barreal. Lakes and mountains: Bariloche. Every place has its magic, but they all have something in common, nature and disconnection.

Choosing one destination over another was not easy, but we tried to ensure that most regions of the country are represented.

What was our selection criteria? That they are suitable for the whole family, easily accessible, and offer all the amenities for tourists.

Below we give you all the info on each destination and, of course, there is much more to choose from.

The Yungas of Jujuy and Salta

For those who love the jungle and want to experience a very different landscape, northern Argentina has the not-so-well-known yungas. This is a very diverse ecosystem that is home to hundreds of animals and a very abundant flora. This environment can be found in both Salta and Jujuy, but there are some places where you can really get to know this region.

In the province of Salta you will find the Quebrada de San Lorenzo, just 10 kilometers from the capital. There you will find the San Lorenzo Yungas Municipal Reserve, which has some walking trails (suitable for all audiences) that allow you to get up close to this beautiful ecosystem.

To the north, in the province of Jujuy, lies the beautiful Calilegua National Park, which is very close to the capital. The nearest city  (where you can stay overnight) is Libertador General San Martín. The Park has some moderately challenging trails, but the best part is that it is a rarely visited place. This allows you to appreciate the sounds of nature in their fullest expression.

A recommendation? Combine the Salta yungas with those of Jujuy over about 4 days, and if you have more time, take a tour through the Quebrada de Humahuaca. With all of this, one of the best spring travel destinations awaits you.

Barreal in San Juan

A unique place to get closer to the universe. And we don't mean that metaphorically. In Barreal, about 210 km from the city of San Juan and about 380 km from the city of Mendoza, you will find one of the best skies for stargazing and, therefore, one of the best spring travel destinations in Argentina.

At the foot of the Andes lies El Leoncito National Park, guardian of the darkest and most starry nights. There are two observatories there: CASLEO -belonging to CONICET- and Félix Aguilar from the National University of San Juan. Both offer the possibility of enjoying expert-guided nighttime experiences. One important note: book in advance through their websites.

That's not all. In Barreal you can also go land sailing at Pampa El Leoncito (practically in front of the National Park), horseback riding, trekking such as the Arroyo Turquesa trail, and wine tasting. And, of course, relax while taking in the imposing Andes mountain range, whose peaks are still snow-capped at this time of year.

How to get to Barreal? The  best option is to rent a car in San Juan or Mendoza and start your journey. One note! From Mendoza, the recommended route is via National Route 40. Google Maps suggests taking RN 149, but a good stretch of it is practically sand (only accessible with a 4×4).

The Misiones Jungle

We say Misiones Jungle and not just Iguazú Falls because Misiones has so much more to offer. The great thing is that everything is close together with excellent and beautiful roads. Rivers, impressive waterfalls and an incredible jungle await you in one of the best spring travel destinations in Argentina.

You can start your trip in Posadas or in Puerto Iguazú. Fly to one of those cities, rent a car and put together an itinerary to include some of the destinations you like most. If you've already been to Iguazú, you can start from Posadas and venture into the jungle in the center of the province until you reach the incredible Moconá Falls.

When traveling to the Falls, we recommend that you go beyond Iguazú National Park and dare to explore the other side of the Misiones Jungle. Take National Route 101 and head to Urugua-í Provincial Park to walk its trails that are available just for you. Of course, the previous days will be entirely dedicated to the Falls.

A recommendation: travel for at least a week so you don't miss out on more than just the beautiful Iguazú Falls.

El Palmar National Park and Colón

Very close to the City of Buenos Aires (just 350 km away) lies El Palmar National Park, one of the most visited and recognized in the country. Palm groves, rivers and trails where you can spot birds and numerous capybaras (and many more animals) are just some of its attractions.

The ideal option is to camp in the National Park, which has a beautiful and very well-equipped campsite. But if you prefer something more comfortable, right across from it you will find La Aurora del Palmar, a private nature reserve with accommodation.

In El Palmar National Park there are some beaches that open to the public during spring. You will also walk along trails, go kayaking on the Uruguay River and learn about the history of the region, as within the park there are vestiges of the Jesuit Missions.

But the area's attractions don't stop there. The city of Colón, very close to El Palmar, has thermal baths and beaches. Additionally, just a few kilometers away is the town of San José, an interesting place for rural tourism. And finally, don't miss a visit to Pueblo Liebig, an open-air museum, as this town was built exclusively for a meatpacking plant in the early 20th century and today preserves part of that past.

A tip: in Villa Elisa -just a few minutes from Colón- there are thermal baths perfect for relaxing, with all the amenities.

Bariloche and the Route of the 7 Lakes

We arrive in Patagonia and one of the most beautiful cities in the country: Bariloche. After the snowfalls and cold days, the thaw arrives and the forest blooms, which is why we chose it as one of the best spring travel destinations in Argentina. As we know, there are many things to do in Bariloche, so here we share some must-sees you shouldn't miss.

To help you organize your Bariloche itinerary, here is a short list of things you absolutely must do:

• Explore the Circuito Chico
• Climb Cerro Campanario or Cerro Otto (or both if you want)
• Head to Cerro Tronador via the Pampa Linda road
• Enjoy a hot chocolate or coffee at one of the most well-known spots
• Visit Isla Victoria and the Arrayanes National Park.
• Discover some of the hidden gems of Bariloche.

There is one plan you cannot miss:  a trip along the Route of the 7 Lakes. Take your time and stop to enjoy each of the lakes (and if you can, spend the night at a campsite or cabin along the way).

The best way to explore each of the top destinations to travel in spring. Start by renting one in any of the main cities and plan your trip to get to know each place in depth.

• Plan the trip in advance. There are some weeks in spring that can be busier. Therefore, book accommodations and some excursions a few weeks ahead.
• Bring comfortable clothing and warm layers. It is true, the spring weather can be milder, but the reality is that it can vary greatly throughout the day. So bring clothes for both cold and warm weather.
• Longer days are coming, more time for activities. In spring there are more hours of daylight, ideal for exploring and walking at a leisurely pace.
• Use sunscreen and a hat. Even if the weather is cool, the sun can be strong. Use sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat to avoid sunburn.
• Enjoy the gastronomy. No trip is complete without a moment for regional dishes. Indulge in gastronomic pleasures and experience new flavors.
