2- The Tunnel Path
We invite all travelers to immerse themselves in a surprising journey and discover one of its hidden treasures. An extraordinary adventure awaits you at the Taninga Tunnels. This incredible work located in the Traslasierra valley, in western Córdoba, connects the province of Córdoba with La Rioja. Get ready to cross the sierras of this province through dark tunnels.
This 36.5-kilometer route includes 5 tunnels that cut through the mountains, and as you exit each one, you will be surrounded by landscapes on the edge of cliffs and impressive canyons that will leave you speechless. Since it is such a long route, in order to visit everything and not miss any detail, it is necessary to do it on wheels. To get to this place, you will need to drive along Provincial Route No. 34 from the city of Córdoba, heading towards Mina Clavero, and then continue along Route No. 15. If you have followed these directions, you will arrive at the town of Taninga, where you will find a tourist office where you can obtain information if you wish. From Taninga, you will need to take Provincial Route No. 28. Along the way you will find restaurants where you can taste the most famous local dish: the chivito, and if you wish, you can also get out of the vehicle and explore the different landscapes and views this incredible place has to offer.
These tunnels have been built within a natural setting that boasts tourist attractions that can be appreciated from various viewpoints. Among these attractions, we can admire the imposing Quebrada de la Mermela, and a waterfall known as "bridal veil."
If you embark on this journey and begin to descend, you will also encounter a different kind of landscape. If you love forests, don't miss the chance to reach this part of the route and head down to the Chancaní Nature Reserve. Keep in mind that this stretch is not paved, unlike the rest of the route. Therefore, we recommend proceeding with great caution, checking the condition of the car, and making sure you have enough fuel.
