2. Mendoza – Villavicencio – Uspallata – Mendoza
A route that, in total, is completed in 5 or 6 hours. It covers around 350 kilometers. The road takes us through all kinds of surfaces. Pavement, dirt, and rocks. Mountain air, native wildlife, and vegetation. It is recommended to set off from the city in the morning, heading to Villavicencio. Upon arriving at the first destination, we can stop, get out, and walk around for a bit. Explore the abandoned hotel and take in the landscape. Next, the dirt road section begins. With curves and slopes, but with a unique scenery. From the vehicle we can take it all in, without needing to get out. Although stopping to take a photo is never a bad idea. Then, we arrive at Uspallata. Here we can buy food, fuel up, and take care of our needs. Finally, the return home via route 7.
3. Mendoza – Las Vegas – La Carrera – Tupungato – El Manzano – Mendoza
Same duration and distance covered. Similar scenery, just as captivating as the previous option. It is recommended to leave early in the morning heading to the town of Las Vegas, in Potrerillos. A technical stop. There is a supply store. Then the dirt road begins, but suitable for cars, toward Tupungato. It is known as the "La Carrera" or "Manantiales" road. It is a road with few curves. Just a handful of switchbacks. The rest are long straightaways through mountain meadows. You reach your destination. From there, the wine roads lead to El Manzano Histórico. There is a wide range of options to buy food or eat on the spot. Finally, you head down toward the town of Vista Flores and join route 40 to return to Mendoza.
4. The Wine Roads
We set off by car from Mendoza, as a common starting point, toward Tupungato, along route 40, taking the detour through "Los Cerrillos", a majestic landscape. In just under an hour we will be at our destination. Once there, the real fun begins. From Tupungato to El Manzano, as explained above, you travel "The Wine Roads". The route winds through the vineyards of the province's leading wineries. Their architecture stands out and adorns the already beautiful natural surroundings. Not to be missed. Upon arriving at El Manzano, the instructions have already been explained above.
5. San Rafael / Las Leñas:
Southern Mendoza is far from the city of Mendoza, so we recommend not visiting these destinations as a day trip! Southern Mendoza offers so many unmissable destinations that it is worth dedicating at least 3 to 5 days to explore it thoroughly. Among its attractions, we can highlight:
Valle Grande:
A reservoir a few kilometers from the city of San Rafael with a great range of adventure tourism both on its river and on site, as well as plenty of dining options along the way.
El Nihuil:
Another reservoir a few kilometers from the city, and a favorite destination among San Rafael residents.
Los Reyunos:
A beautiful reservoir with an idyllic village nestled among mountains, recommended for those who have boats for both fishing and water sports.
Las Leñas:
The famous ski resort located in Malargüe is a very popular destination both in winter and summer. In winter it is obviously one of the most sought-after destinations for those who want to experience the snow as well as practice skiing and snowboarding. The great thing is that in summer and shoulder season it can also be visited to admire its stunning mountains as well as enjoy horseback riding, trekking, and much more.
Valle Hermoso:
Past Las Leñas we come across Valle Hermoso, (Attention!!, the road is not good and we do not recommend driving it in small vehicles, preferably high-clearance vehicles no more than 5 years old! Pickup trucks are ideal.) This valley is like something out of a fairy tale, with a dreamlike landscape; you will find rivers and a lagoon with a campsite where you can spend the night in Domes or a tent. You can also camp outside!
It is a destination very popular among fishermen and people who want to disconnect from technology for a while.
