Good news from Cusco: the iconic Huayna Picchu mountain, located in the heart of the Machu Picchu archaeological complex, welcomed tourists again on April 28 following the restoration of its main access route. The steep Route 3-A was rehabilitated with safety measures such as steel handrails and retaining walls to ensure a safe and thrilling experience.
On its first day, more than 300 visitors —domestic and foreign— ventured to climb this imposing Andean summit. The reopening marks a new opportunity to rediscover this sacred place through a one-of-a-kind hike.

More than 2,700 meters above sea level, Huayna Picchu rises as one of the most sought-after adventures within the archaeological park of Machu Picchu. This challenging ascent offers unparalleled views and a deep connection with Inca history.
The trails were carved by the Incas and still impress with their engineering today. During the hike, travelers pass through narrow paths, stone staircases, and jungle stretches that demand energy and determination. While no trekking experience is required, good physical fitness is important.
At the summit, in addition to the panoramic landscape, you will find the Temple of the Moon (also known as The Great Cavern), a ceremonial space hidden among the vegetation. - The hike has a medium-high difficulty level and is estimated to take around an hour and a half, round trip.
- Minimum age to enter: 12 years old (accompanied by an adult).
- The maximum time allowed at Machu Picchu with Huayna Picchu is 6 hours.
