Vehicle Maintenance
- Change the spark plugs and cables. If these are old, it is important to replace them to allow electricity to flow smoothly so the engine starts without struggling to reach combustion.
- Avoid accelerating and stopping. It is not advisable to have constant starts and stops, as the engine wears out and this causes it to lose its proper functioning. It is essential to maintain a constant speed to prevent wear and it will also benefit your fuel efficiency.
- Replace the fuel filter. This component often fills up with particles that affect our engine. For this reason, replacing the filter (at regular intervals) will help the fuel flow clean and make it easier for the engine to burn fuel.
- Monitor the dashboard warning lights. The lights on our dashboard are not just part of the aesthetic design of our vehicle. It is extremely important to know what each of the dashboard signals means. The most relevant ones are: check engine, battery, oil pressure, and engine temperature. If any of these light up, you should take your vehicle to your trusted mechanic.
- Refuel before reaching the minimum. It is important to refuel before the tank reaches its limit. When driving with the minimum amount of fuel, the engine begins to suck up residue sitting at the bottom of the tank, causing internal damage.
- Cooling system. The best way to prevent our engine from overheating is to monitor the amount of coolant fluid circulating through the engine when it is hot. Therefore, it is extremely important that the coolant level is adequate.
- Oil change. The oil change is one of the most valuable maintenance tasks for our engine, as it ensures proper lubrication of its parts. The oil change interval will depend on the type of engine. The most common intervals are every 5,000 kilometers or even every 8,000 kilometers. Check your vehicle's manual.
