The ski season in Ushuaia runs from June through early October. Yes, it extends well into spring and is one of the ski resorts with the greatest number of open days. 

During these months, temperatures range from -5°C to 5°C. While it is cold, these conditions guarantee excellent powder snow quality, ideal for skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts.

As in most ski resorts in Argentina, at Cerro Castor the season is divided into two: low and high. It is very important that you know which one to choose to better organize your trip.

What are the months for each one?

• Low season: from June 27 to July 4 and from September 20 to September 28.
• High season: July 5 to September 19.

Of course, during high season you will find more people and higher prices. If you can, we recommend going during low season days so you can enjoy a more relaxed stay.

Frequent snowfall, dry cold and, sometimes, a little wind. We are talking about the End of the World, and like all of Patagonia the winter is something very particular. These weather conditions keep the slopes in optimal conditions, and allow you to experience an uncommon adventure. 

The best thing is to dress in layers and be ready in case the weather changes from one moment to the next. Should anything happen, the city has many activities that complement the experience of skiing in Ushuaia.

Unlike other places in the country, in Ushuaia there is only one ski resort: Cerro Castor. It is a little far from the city, but the short trip to get here is well worth it. As you make your way there, snow adorns the beautiful mountain range with stunning panoramic views.

Located 25 km from the city, the Cerro Castor Ski Resort is one of the most famous in Argentina and the world. Not only because it is located at the end of the earth, but its infrastructure is on par with the most modern ski resorts in Europe and the United States. And a detail that few places have: reliable, quality snow throughout the entire season.

With almost 30 ski slopes, Cerro Castor offers a wide range of options for all skiers and snowboard enthusiasts. It also has 13 ski lifts to quickly get you to whichever slope you choose.

If you're just starting out in skiing or snowboarding, we recommend heading to the beginner area to take some lessons and then try the easy slopes. If you already have some basic skills, the intermediate slopes are the right choice for you. For the more experienced, the difficult slopes are where you need to go. 

A tip: there is a Snowpark ideal for those who love jumping on a snowboard, thanks to the mounds that form during summer and are covered with snow during winter. You'll even find an area for those who are just getting started.

At Cerro Castor, as in most ski resorts in Argentina, the season is divided between low and high season, so the cost is not always the same. 

Here are the prices so you have an idea of how much a pass costs for a ski day. Keep in mind that the more days you ski in Ushuaia, the lower the price of the passes per day.

High season:

• Children: 80 USD

Low season:

• Adults: 80 USD
• Children: 55 USD

Yes! The Cerro Castor Ski Resort has activities for the whole family. Whether you don't know how to ski, don't want to, or are looking for something to do with the little ones, you'll find the perfect plan for you here.

One option is skating on the outdoor ice rink. It is suitable for all ages and ideal for the youngest visitors.  

Another way to enjoy the snow is by doing cross-country skiing. The great thing about this activity is that it is for everyone and no prior knowledge is required. It can even be a great introduction to this winter sport.Additionally, you can simply purchase a pedestrian pass and enjoy the snow in a different way.

If you don't bring your own gear, don't worry. At the base of Cerro Castor there are several rental shops where you can rent everything you need: skis, poles, snowboards, boots, helmets and goggles. 

• Rental Morada. It is the largest and most complete on the mountain.
• Rental Base. It is the oldest on the mountain. Here you can find ski and snowboard equipment.
• Rental Alpino. It offers options to rent cross-country ski equipment and ice skates for the rink.

The great thing is that to get ahead of any possible issues finding equipment, you can book online in advance.

Another option, and a cheaper one, is to rent in the city and bring the equipment in your car.

The city of Ushuaia is the place where you need to stay. There are no accommodations at Cerro Castor, so you must sleep in the provincial capital. 

The good news is that you have options for all tastes and budgets: from simple cabins, apartments for rent on Airbnb, boutique hotels to 5-star properties. All you have to do is choose the one that best suits your needs and book in advance.

The truth is it's very easy: you have to rent a car and drive along National Route 3 for about 25 km from the center of Ushuaia. In winter there may be ice or snow on the road, so it's important to go slowly and without rushing.

A tip: during high season, leave early to avoid traffic.

If you go for a week of skiing in Ushuaia, considering the passes, equipment and accommodation (plus the plane ticket) the total cost starts from approximately 2000 USD per person. Of course, this price can be higher depending on the accommodation and meals.

If you want to cut costs, a good option is to rent an apartment or cabin in the city.

In Ushuaia you may have to drive over some light snow or ice. The snowplow passes frequently, but snowfalls tend to be intense and daily. 

For those who are not used to driving in these weather conditions, here are some tips to enjoy your vacation with peace of mind:

• The vehicle should always have snow chains available to fit them if necessary. 
• Keep a low and steady speed. It is important to avoid sudden maneuvers that could cause you to lose control of the car.
• Increase your braking distance from other vehicles, as ice reduces traction.
• Use low beam lights throughout the entire journey, even during the day. Being seen is just as important as seeing others.
• Make sure you have a shovel, gloves and extra warm clothing in case you need to stop or get stranded.

And one last tip: if the authorities or locals say the weather is going to get worse, the best thing to do is to stay in the city and enjoy the gastronomic delights of Patagonian cuisine.
